So Just How Much Free Data Is Telstra Giving Its Customers?

Last week we brought you the news that Telstra is boosting data caps for its ADSL, ADSL2+, NBN and Cable customers in a bid to avoid going unmetered on sites like Netflix, Stan and Presto. But exactly how much extra data is everyone getting? We went and found out.

Over the last few months, Telstra has worked to “top up” the data allowances of 2.6 million customers so they can take advantage of new streaming video services and the national Telstra Air Wi-Fi network.

Customers getting the data top ups are all on plans launched prior to 30 June 2015.

Rather than giving everyone a standard bump, however, Telstra has sprinkled different amounts of data onto different accounts, so it’s tough to nail down exactly how much of a bonus customers are getting.

What we did get out of the ISP is that customers who were on 100GB plans had their data doubled to 200GB; customers on the 200GB plans were bumped to 500GB, while those on a 500GB plan were bumped to a bonkers 1TB totally free.

What do you think of getting free data in lieu of unmetered content? Tell us in the comments!
