Want your wife or girlfriend to remember that you need the car on Saturday, drop your voice a few octaves. NPR reports that research conducted by Kevin Allan of the University of Aberdeen King’s College in Scotland determined that women are more likely to remember something when spoken to in a low-pitch voice.
In the study, women were shown objects while listening to the the name of the object read aloud by men. The deeper the voice, the more likely the women remembered the object. This explains why Barry White is the official music of playas. Seriously, who could resist the smooth silky voice of Barry? No one, that’s who.
The men tested were not sensitive to the pitch of female voices in regards to memory. Sorry ladies, still no perfect pitch to get the garage cleaned out. [NPR]
