If you’re thumbing through your Twitter feed and you stumble across an interesting article you don’t have enough time to read, you might forget about it if you don’t save it somewhere. Instapaper has long reigned supreme in this arena, but there’s a new kid on the block… sorta. Formerly known as Read It Later, the newly christened Pocket has completely made itself over with a UI that’s downright beautiful, along with bookmarking support for photos and video.
What does it do?
Pocket includes all of the same features included in the past version — namely, bookmarking and formatting your articles — with added support for photos and videos. You can save items from your browser, from email, or from other apps like Twitter, Zite, Flipboard, Pulse and more than 300 others.
Why do we like it?
Aside from the new name and fresh logo, Pocket’s UI has also been totally redesigned. It has a very clean, minimalist look, with simple fonts, making it easy, not to mention quite pleasant, to use. Though it’s fully functional on the iPhone, it’s especially nice on the iPad, with it’s bigger screen and retina display. Plus, it’s free! It used to cost $2.99, but many of the paid offerings from its predecessor have been rolled into the updated app.
And if you’re not an Apple fan, you’re in luck. There’s an Android version too.
