What is the best method to use when photographing someone in direct sunlight? Expert shooter Scott Kelby explains this, along with other tricks, in his free iPad app.
What does it do?
If you’re an amateur photographer — even if you’re a seasoned vet — Lighting Recipes is very helpful. In 13 different video lessons, Kelby shows how he achieved 20 shots, taken in various settings, from outdoor wedding portraits to indoor studio pics.
Why do we like it?
It’s like a virtual text book that lets you take in every lesson in about 45 minutes. These mini-seminars detail how to take a specific shot, set-by-step, from start to finish, with lighting diagrams, too. Though setups can be costly, Kelby directs you toward cheaper ways to recreate the types of images he’s snapped. A gear guide included with each lesson also tells the type of tools he used, with links for where to buy. This is a must-have app for aspiring shutterbugs. [New York Times]
