Just a week after the Kindle DX was axed, seems Amazon is trimming its product line further: evidence suggests that its Kindle Touch is to be discontinued, with the Paperwhite filling the gap.
Paid Content reports that the Kindle Touch is “currently unavailable” — but crucially a link points to “a newer model of this item” which happens to be the Kindle Paperwhite. The Touch is also no longer shown in Amazon’s Kindle lineup. Perhaps not surprising, and no bad thing given just how good the Paperwhite is.
However, if you want a touchscreen Kindle and you want it quick, you’re out of luck. With the Touch unavailable and the Paperwhite facing a six-week backlog, you’re in for a wait unless you can cope with base-model, non-touchscreen Kindle. But seriously: wait for the Paperwhite. It’s great. [Paid Content]
