Street photography is tasked with capturing the fleeting beauty of the city. Photographer Mick Victor looks closer and finds vibrant abstraction in the graffiti-strewn walls of Los Angeles.
In a video produced by Snow Globe Studios and posted by The Atlantic, Victor explains how he searches for these accidental compositions of not only graffiti, but the cover-up paint meant to hide it. This concept has been explored before, with Matt McCormick’s tongue-in-cheek documentary, The Subconscious Art of Graffiti Removal, coming to mind.
Victor takes a more aestheticised and serious approach in getting close-up to walls, poles and streets to take photos of the colourful surfaces. It’s well-trodden territory, but a good lesson in looking in unexpected areas for photographic subjects. [Atlantic Cities]
