What’s the most ridiculous piece of design that you can imagine? Chances are someone else has already thought of it — especially if it’s a lightsaber knife. This year’s Electrolux Design Lab competition includes exactly that, as well as dozens of other innovative ideas, on show at Vivid Sydney.
‘Intelligent Mobility’ was this year’s design theme, with a bunch of concept art and designs for portable high-tech appliances submitted by competition entrants. There’s even an Australian finalist, from design student Rodrigo Capati at RMIT University — his Lotus Flow is a combined air purification and lighting system that uses its petals to catch and filter dust and other pollutants while also working as a hanging light globe.
The Electrolux Design Lab competition has been running for 12 years now, but this is the first time it has been exhibited in Australia. As part of Vivid Sydney, the showcase will be on display at the Good Design Lounge at 140 George St in The Rocks. [Good Design Australia]
