Spike Lee Put His New Joint On Vimeo A Month Before Its Theatre Debut

This is a big get for Vimeo: Spike Lee made his latest movie, Da Sweet Blood of Jesus, available to stream on the video-sharing site today, a month before its theatrical release.

From The Interview, we’re seeing movies debut on streaming services before or at the same time as their big-screen releases more frequently, but this is the first major coup for Vimeo.

Vimeo’s decision to amp up its On Demand platform earlier this month makes even more sense if Da Sweet Blood of Jesus is just its first swing at hosting first-run, paid content.

You can rent Da Sweet Blood of Jesus for $US10 or buy it outright for $US15 through the Vimeo site. Here’s the trailer for the iPad photographer, gentrification enemy, and Do the Right Thing director’s latest, a vampire flick financed partially through Kickstarter in 2013. [The Verge]
