Sodium (which starts out as a silver-white metal) first turns into sodium oxide (which is like a white powder), then turns into molten sodium (which is hot metal goo), then turns into this purple egg-ish thing, before finally bursting into flames and ending as sodium peroxide (which is totally gnarly).
