Adam West Gets In Touch With His Punk Side With This Cover Of ‘The Thing’

Adam West may sadly no longer be with us, but his holiday gifts continue to rain down like Robin’s laid eggs. A song from the upcoming tribute album for an iconic radio host features West taking on one of the coolest scifi jams of the 1950s: “The Thing.”

Dr. Demento Covered in Punk is a two-hour tribute album for the radio host who re-popularised some of the weirdest songs in music history (like “The Purple People Eater” and “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer”). The album features artists like Weird Al and William Shatner taking on the very songs that Dr. Demento turned into cult classics for over 40 years until his radio show ended in 2010.

The album doesn’t come out until January 12, but they have released West’s rendition of “The Thing” by Phil Harris, which originally came out in 1950 and spent four weeks at the top of the charts. This one is slightly more punk rock than its predecessor, but West manages to still keep it light, fun, and classy. You can listen to the track below.
