If you’re looking for some late night mail checking action, we have some bad news – Gmail is currently down.
Users attempting to log into the service are receiving a 404 message with an accompanying sad robot. Upon testing we also received this error in both Chrome (immediately) and Firefox (after clearing the cookies).
The problem seems to be global, with reports coming in from Aussie Outages as well as international site outage.report.
The problems seem to have begun just after 10pm AEDT, with people already taking to social.

Despite the large number of reported issues at the time, whoever is manning Gmail’s Twitter account stated that there were no disruptions at 10:11pm.
Hi there. Currently, there are no disruptions. Could you try clearing the browser cache and cookies to see if that helps: https://t.co/0qpxh9xK73? Keep us posted.

At the time of writing there had been no acknowledgement of the issues from Google or any Gmail social account. We’ll let you know if and when there is a resolution.
Update 23:30: After roughly an hour and a half of downtime, it seems to be up and running again. We’re still yet to see an acknowledgement of the problem (or what caused it) from google.
