And we’re so excited! This was truly my comfort show last year, and I’m so pleased that the second season is here and back. After covering the Shadow and Bone panel at Comic-Con, I’m thrilled to see all my best boys and girls back in action. And also, my worst babygirl, General Kirigan/The Darkling. Let’s get into the first-look production photos.
The synopsis is below:
Alina Starkov is on the run. A beacon of hope to some and a suspected traitor to others, she’s determined to bring down the Shadow Fold and save Ravka from ruin. But General Kirigan has returned to finish what he started. Backed by a terrifying new army of seemingly indestructible shadow monsters and fearsome new Grisha recruits, Kirigan is more dangerous than ever. To stand a fighting chance against him, Alina and Mal rally their own powerful new allies and begin a continent-spanning journey to find two mythical creatures that will amplify her powers.
Back in Ketterdam, the Crows must forge new alliances as they contend with old rivals and even older grudges that threaten not only their place in the Barrel, but their very lives. When a chance at a deadly heist comes their way, the Crows will once again find themselves on a collision course with the legendary Sun Summoner.
Alina and Mal
Here’s Jessie Mei Li (Alina Starkov) and Archie Renaux (Malyen Oretsev) returning to be stars in this second season. They’re on a ship — a real sailing ship, not a sand-ship across the Unsea. We’ll see how far they get before their cover is blown.
The Crows of Ketterdam
HERE THEY ARE! Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom are still a pair of my favourite fantasy books, and this cast does an incredible job. The crows are: Freddy Carter (Kaz Brekker), Amita Suman (Inej Ghafa), Kit Young (Jesper Fahey), Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik), and Jack Wolfe (Wylan Hendriks).

Clearly not doing a great job blending in… but who’s that she’s threatening?
General Meow Meow
The absolute worst! I love watching Ben Barnes chew on the scenery as General Kirigan, the bad boy that is the most generic traumatic bad boy in the world and who truly does the most with the skrugliest little role. Cannot wait to boo this man on screen and cheer for him at Comic Con.
Mathias Helvar you will always be famous
Calahan Skogman got just a few scenes last season as Matthias Helvar and I’m thrilled to have him back in action. Matthias’ enemies to lovers romance with Nina Zenik is truly for the ages.
My boys
Wylan and Jesper have an incredible arc in the duology, and I am so excited to see my naive little demolitions expert Wylan go head to head with Jesper, my non-stop gunslinger who would rather stop breathing than stop flirting.
Kaz/Inej shippers, now is our time
I truly love what Freddy Carter is doing with Kaz Brekker, a character I adore with my whole heart. And Amita Suman as Inej is utter perfection, she brings the grace, the elegance, the deadly no-nonsense assassin to life. I cannot wait for them to never kiss.
Introducing the Bataar twins
We’re getting one of our first looks at Lewis Tan as Tolya Yul-Bataar and Anna Leong Brophy as Tamar Kir-Bataar, faithful followers of the Sun Summoner and general badasses.
Die Sturmhond
The golden boy we’ve all been waiting for, the bastard prince of Ravka, the Sturmhond of the north seas, the too-clever fox, the artificer of my heart, Nikolai Lantsov (Patrick Gibson). So excited to see this boy make every mistake in the book and then invent a few more, just for good measure.
