We want an immersive experience
Whether you’re watching sports, playing esports or avoiding real life sports by putting your feet up in front of a movie, we now expect our entertainment to be immersive. If you want to feel like you’re there in the crowd, a bigger screen is the first step to achieving that.
With an optimum viewing distance of 2.3m, Samsung’s new 75-inch QLED range means that no matter the size of your living room, you’re in the best seat in the house… or stadium, or theatre, for that matter. Thanks to 4K UHD technology, the picture won’t be compromised by the screen’s size or the distance you sit from it.
A screen this large also means that you can fit an actual crowd in your living room and everyone can still see the screen – a genuinely immersive experience.
Unfortunately, you can’t smell the sweat dripping off a fullback’s forehead, but you can see it beading – and that’s probably better than sitting sideline.
Picture quality isn’t compromised by screen size
Back in the day, it felt like TV shows, games and movies were all designed for one size screen, and as soon as you enlarged your screen, the picture quality decreased.
There’s nothing worse when you’re trying to watch Wimbledon than losing track of the ball because it whooshes and then blurs into the rest of your screen.
This is not a problem for Samsung’s new QLED range, which sets a new standard for picture quality when it comes to both colour and definition. The Quantum Dots in the Samsung QLED TVs are inorganic, which means that just like the best washing detergents, it makes your whites whiter and your colours brighter.
HDR10+ and Direct Full Array (DFA) technology means a deeper, more pristine contrast across colours and blacks, so you’ll never miss any crucial details in an intense dark scene – you see every shot as clearly as the director did.
And one more thing – remember when we used to be afraid that if we paused a movie too long, the image would burn into the screen in the technological equivalent of your mum telling you the wind would change and freeze your face in a smirk one day?

It’s more than just a TV
In a culture obsessed with smart technology, we now expect more from everything we buy. And why shouldn’t we? It’s 2018, after all.
Hass Mahdi, Head of AV, Samsung Electronics Australia, agrees. Mahdi says Samsung’s focus on picture quality is equal to a focus on making technology that works around consumers and their passions – whether it’s watching sports or movies, playing games or interacting online.
“The way Australians watch and use their TVs is changing and we’ve responded with a lineup that reflects their lifestyle, personal style and viewing habits,” Mahdi said.
The new Samsung QLED range has a few Smart features that make life that little bit easier.
Firstly, it has a system called Effortless Login that will drastically reduce the time it takes you to set up the TV and connect it to your home Wi-Fi.
Secondly, they have an intuitive Smart Things menu with a huge range of built in apps – like Stan and YouTube – so you don’t need an external device to organise your streaming options.
And thirdly, and this is not to be underestimated in its convenience – one remote control. The Samsung One Remote Control lets you switch between streams or connected devices (such as games consoles, Blu-ray players, etc.) and even recognises the devices for you, so you’ll never again need to guess which device is plugged into HDMI3.
One final mini Smart feature – Ambient Mode. When you’re not using your TV, you can load up a background picture from your smartphone camera so it blends into the wall, rotate through family photos so you keep the grandparents happy, or display the weather so you don’t need to look out the window. Everyone wins.
