There Might Not Be A Pixel 4a XL, Folks

Bad news if you were holding out for the Pixel 4a range to bring you a large-screen smartphone at an affordable(ish) price: Google won’t be offering an XL version of its mid-range handset.

At least, that’s according to this highly unverified scoop by YouTuber Dave Lee, who believes Google will be making the move simply because the 3a firmly outsold its XL variant. It would be the first Pixel series phone not to come in two sizes if Lee is right. Admittedly, he’s a respected tech vlogger with millions of subscribers, but he doesn’t have a track record breaking smartphone news, so it’s worth taking this one with a pinch of salt.

The leaked 4a renders we saw last week showed off what’s either going to end up being a 5.7-inch or 5.8-inch screen (Lee believes it will be the latter) with a holepunch camera in the top left corner and a miserly single-lens camera at the rear, where you’ll also find the fingerprint sensor. The YouTuber reckons the device will come in three colour options and, like the distinctive design choice made for the flagship Pixel 4 range, each will have a differently hued power button: black with green, white with coral and “arctic blue” with “hot pink.”

Further specs at this point, as well as a price, aren’t clear, although it is expected to have a headphone jack, USB-C port and absolutely no support for wireless charging. Given Google’s reputation as the leakiest colander in tech, we’ll likely find out plenty more well before I/O 2020 in May, when the company’s expected to formally launch the 4a.
