When Kotaku posted these pics from 2011 of Stars Wars villain Grand Moff Tarkin with the headline “You Will Not Believe These Star Wars Pictures Are Real”, I believed them. So lifelike, so realistic, despite the fact that Peter Cushing, who played Tarkin in A New Hope, died in 1994. So how were these pics taken?
It turns out that Tarkin is actually an über-lifelike sculpture, created by artist Jordu Schell. Made from silicone with glass eyes and hand-punched hair follicles, the sculpture is so detailed you can actually see every crease and every spot on Tarkin’s head.
Wow. Just wow.
