With the rise of HD shooting capabilities in today’s smartphones, dedicated camcorders have become the realm of wannabe filmmakers and doting parents. That said, Toshiba’s new Camileo X400 appears to offer plenty of bang for your buck, which might sway people away from the lousy lenses on their mobiles.
Packing 1080p recording, a 23x optical zoom and recording to SD card, the X400 offers plenty of specs that would have cost a fortune a few years ago. A 5MP CMOS sensor and 3-inch LCD, coupled with an electronic image stabiliser and face tracking technologies all seem like pretty high end features for a camcorder of this size. HDMI output and smile detection, on board editing and slow mo features round out the impressive spec sheet.
But for all those features, it only costs $349. At that price, even the hippest smartphone filmographer could consider getting one.
