Want a 3D camera, but not so keen on an off-the-shelf solution? With some keen tinkering and a spare projector, it’s possible to make a camera that mimics some of Microsoft’s Kinect functionality.
An actual Kinect — even the Kinect for Windows — would admittedly be easier than the home-build solution that the project at Hackengineer presents. Then again, while Kinect is hackable, this thing is eminently adjustable, given that you control the code it’s running entirely. It runs off a simple VGA camera and Pico projector to create 3D images that can then be imported for further tweaking or, for that matter, 3D printing duty. [Hackengineer via Hack A Day]
