On Monday, the internet was all kinds of excited over the fact that hundreds of new emoji were soon to arrive. Now, the Unicode Consortium has published a chart that shows us what they will actually look like.
The list highlights the 240 news Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs that are being added to version 7.0 of the Unicode Standard, which overall adds 2834 new characters to the existing version 6.3. Those keen to cause offence, celebrate Star Trek or simply reminisce about the era of bygone tech will certainly be happy. Reversed Hand With Middle Finger? Check. Reversed Hand With Part Between Middle and Ring Fingers? Yep. Fax Icon? Obviously. You can check all of them out below — the new ones are highlighted in yellow — or in more detail on this list.
More seriously, the emoji only make up a small number of the 2834 new characters, with the others including new currency symbols and historic scripts across multiple languages. Still, there’s no denying that graphical representations of Rolled Up Newspapers and Dagger Knives will make the internet a, err, richer place. [Miscellaneous Symbols and Pictographs via The Verge]
