With four vertically-mounted 55-inch LCD displays completely filling your field-of-view, it’s immediately obvious that this flight simulator from VRX isn’t going to come cheap. But with a price tag of $US75,000 you might actually be better off just putting all that money towards getting your actual pilot’s licence.
But for a flying experience with absolutely no risk of crashing, this custom-built setup definitely looks like it delivers. Powered by a decently-configured PC that’s included with the rig, the VRX simulator lets you take to the skies with your software of choice. It has a 500W 5.1 surround system so you can be suitably deafened by the roar of your plane’s engines, and the seat sits atop a D-BOX motion system with three degrees of movement recreating the feeling of about 2Gs of acceleration.
So you’ll need a secure place to put the simulator, so as not to tear your home’s floors up. But don’t worry, that price tag includes delivery and professional installation by someone who knows what they’re doing. They might even be able to teach you what all those switches and buttons do, but that wouldn’t be as fun as a few days of trial and error. [VRX Advanced Simulators via The Red Ferret Journal]
