Forest Whitaker is having a good late 2016. He’s soon to appear in one of the best films of the year, Arrival, and he’ll follow that by playing Saw Gerrera in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Now, in addition to that, he’s just been cast in Marvel’s Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler.
Whitaker plays Zuri, an elder statesman in Wakanda. He’ll also be joined by new additions to the film Daniel Kaluuya, Winston Duke and Florence Kasumba. Kaluuya will play T’Challa’s confidant W’Kabi; Duke is M’Baku, leader of a rival Wakandan tribe; and Kasumba will reprise her role from Captain America: Civil War as Ayo, a member of the Dora Milaje.
Here’s a look at Zuri from the comics.
In the film, Chadwick Boseman plays the lead character, T’Challa, alongside Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o and Danai Gurira.
The film opens in the US 16 February 2018.
