Say hello to Einstein, a bald eagle from the University of Missouri’s Raptor Rehabilitation Project. The giant bird took to the skies on July 4th after three months of rehabilitation.
The poor eagle arrived in April 2011 and was suffering from lead poisoning. He was disoriented, listless and could not digest food properly. On a liquid diet in captivity, Einstein quickly regained his strength and was able to start flying again in May. A few months of strengthening his wings and the bald eagle was ready to go back to the wild.
The caregivers at the Raptor Rehabilitation Project chose the July 4th release date as the bald eagle is a symbol of American freedom. What better way to celebrate the Fourth than to let Einstein fly free on the day we celebrate independence? [Discovery News]
