After a difficult birth, women are sometimes separated from their newborns because the babies are in the neonatal intensive care unit and the mothers are recovering elsewhere in the hospital. Cedars-Sinai Hospital in LA is providing iPads for “BabyTime,” though, so families can stay connected.
Doctors at Cedars-Sinai estimate that 20 to 30 per cent of mothers are not ambulatory for at least a day after they give birth and could benefit from the program. These patients are given an iPad and can use BabyTime twice a day to connect with the iPad set up next to their infant’s incubator.
Babies take note, these iPads foreshadow the video baby monitors and tracked cell phones in your futures. [medGadget]
