Granted, we’d have been deeply surprised if the BBC decided to end Doctor Who’s 50th anniversary year by killing off the Time Lord. But we’re still pleased that last night’s season finale (any thoughts?) has been followed with confirmation of plans for series 8 (if you start counting from Christopher Eccleston) in 2014.
Before series 8 proper begins, we’ll be treated to a 50th anniversary special in November, which will see David Tennant and Billie Piper return alongside current Doctor Matt Smith and companion Jenna-Louise Coleman. Historically, multi-doctor stories have often tended towards the rubbish end of the spectrum (no-one should ever revisit Dimensions In Time), but we’ll keep our fingers crossed.
