The Death Star Has Never Sounded So Pathetic

The well-executed dubbing of a particularly popular TV show provided endless entertainment, so why can’t awful foley work be hilarious too? Actually, it can be, you just need the right source material… say, Star Wars IV: A New Hope.

In this video, put together by self-described writer Hudson Hongo, all the regular sound effects (and a few bits of dialogue) are replaced by — let’s be honest here — horrible mouth-rendered imitations. From lightsabres to R2-D2’s bleeps and bloops, you’ll have a poorly manufactured stand-in assaulting your ears.

I’d say the middle portion of the clip lets it down a bit, but the end more than makes up for it. I think Princess Leia could have sounded just a little more upset.
