British broadband provider TalkTalk has admitted that all of its 4 million customers’ names, addresses, dates of birth, email addresses, phone numbers and bank details may have stolen by hackers.
The telecommunications company was attacked on Wednesday, and says all of its customers could have been affected by the breach. The police, who launched an investigation yesterday, have described the distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack as ‘significant and sustained’. TalkTalk, meanwhile, says its site is now secure again, and will contact each of its customers to explain the situation and attempt to regain their trust.
It’s believed that a Russian group is behind the hack, with the BBC’s Rory Cellan-Jones earlier tweeting a message from the chaps claiming to be responsible. “We have adapted to the security measures of the web,, we cannot be stopped,” it reads. ” We have made our tracks untraceable through onion routing, encrypted chat messages, private key emails, hacked servers. We will teach our children to use the web for Allah.. Your hands will be covered in blood.. Judgement Day is soon. We are in the Soviet Russia and near place, your Europe, we control Asia, we control America.”
