HBO might have killed off True Blood a couple of years ago, but NBC is hoping that its creator, Charlene Harris, will bring them a new hit. According to Deadline, it just picked up an adaptation of, Midnight, Texas, her latest series.
There have been reports since last year about the possibility of a series: Monica Owusu-Breen, who has worked on Alias, Lost, Fringe, Revolution and Agents of SHIELD, will be writing the show, and will be an executive producer along with David Janollari and Niels Arden Oplev (who will also serve as a director).
Charlene Harris authored the Midnight, Texas trilogy, comprised of Midnight Crossroad, Dayshift and Nightshift (due out this month). A psychic named Manfred Bernardo makes his way to Midnight, Texas, where he’s hoping to find some solace, only to discover that there’s more than meets the eye in the small, secretive town, as well as vampires, witches and werewolves.
The cast for the series includes François Arnaud (Blindspot), Dylan Bruce (Orphan Black), Parisa Fitz-Henley (Jessica Jones), Arielle Kebbel (The Vampire Diaries), Sarah Ramos (Parenthood), Peter Mensah (Sleepy Hollow), Yul Vazquez (Bloodline, War of the Worlds) and Sean Bridgers (Rectify).
It will be interesting to see just how this fits with NBC. Unlike True Blood, which came out from HBO, NBC will have to be limited in what they show on screen. Still, for anyone missing their fix of the supernatural, this could be a promising show.
