We’ve seen the teens with attitude, we’ve seen Rita Repusla, we’ve even seen the Ranger suits. But we hadn’t actually seen anything in terms of stills from the Power Rangers movie — until now.
As part of the kick-off of their San Diego Comic-Con coverage, Entertainment Weekly revealed the first look at the film with scene, featuring Becky G as Yellow Ranger Trini being threatened by the villainous Rita. Becky G describes the scene as Rita singling out the youngest ranger as the weak link in the team:
Rita tries to make Trini feel like she’s the weakest link of the Power Rangers, and she feels it’s easiest to go for her. Rita’s the type to play a lot of mind games, and Trini’s [thinking], “Can I really overpower Rita Repulsa or can I not?”
It’s still weird to see Elizabeth Bank’s Rita costume — being almost literally alien to the character’s original look — but the idea of her being a little more than a lovable, cackling despot and going after the Rangers while they’re not powered up and ready to kick her butt is an interesting one.
