The next Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Homecoming, has been filming in Atlanta for several weeks now. For the most part, everything’s been pretty secretive. Even the roles many actors are playing has been a mystery. But one big one may have just been unmasked.
The Wrap is reporting that Zendaya, seen in the San Diego Comic-Con trailer as kind of a run-down nerdy type, is playing someone you’ve probably heard of. It’s not a huge reveal, but since this wasn’t officially announced, we’ll treat it as a spoiler.
According to The Wrap, Zendaya is playing Mary Jane Watson, well-known love interest for Peter Parker. If that’s true, and several people have told the publication that, it’s definitely a new take on the character. In the Comic-Con footage, the character has ratty hair, glasses and looks like a typical movie nerd. Which, the actress told us at Comic-Con, is why she’s loving the role.
“I like it because it’s more towards who I am in real life,” Zendaya told us at Comic-Con. “It’s great because I get to wake up and literally go to set and not do anything. I can just be exactly how I am when I get out of bed, which is great and very time efficient.”

You have to imagine, if she is Mary Jane, she undergoes a transformation much like Peter Parker will in the film.
Spider-Man: Homecoming, directed by Jon Watts and also starring Tom Holland and Michael Keaton, opens in the US on 7 July 2017.
