Spin Master has been doing some wonderful things when it comes to Star Wars toys, including a giant BB-8 that does almost everything the movie version did. But if space battles are more your thing, the company is releasing two new Air Hogs sets that let you recreate the space battles from the movies.
The Air Hogs Star Wars X-wing vs. Death Star, Rebel Assault RC Drones set is probably our favourite of today’s reveals. It comes with two well-known vehicles from the Star Wars universe, an X-wing and the Death Star, that can both actually fly. You only get to take control of the X-wing, however, as the Death Star flies and hovers all by itself.
Both drones are equipped with infrared blasters, receivers, and LED status lights, and as the X-wing pilot you need to hit the Death Star three times to destroy the ultimate weapon before it successfully knocks you out of the sky. It will be available for pre-order starting on September 9 for $US130 ($169), and should arrive just in time for the holidays (and The other set Spin Master revealed today lets you and a friend battle it out in the skies over your living room coffee table. The Air Hogs Star Wars X-wing vs. TIE Fighter Drone Battle set, also available for pre-order starting on September 9 for $US200 ($260), comes with a flying X-wing and TIE fighter drone that are both equipped with infrared blasters and receivers.
Like with the Death Star battle, each pilot is trying to knock the other ship out of the sky by being the first to score three infrared hits. But there’s more of a challenge here since both drones are being piloted by a pair of included wireless controllers — you’re not just trying to take down a stationary hovering opponent. The controllers also have a 60.96m range, so if you can find yourself a gymnasium or empty warehouse, you won’t spend half your time crashing into your home theatre and lamps.
