When 25-year-old Cary McCook told his friends that he got run over by a deer they thought it was a joke. It was April Fools’ Day, after all, and who gets bulldozed by a deer?
McCook, a member of the Kwadacha First Nation tribe and a hip hop artist with Reka-NatioN, was getting dropped off at a hotel in British Columbia when the deer came out of nowhere.
“I still can’t believe I got hit by a deer,” McCook told the Revelstoke Review in Canada. “I heard three gallops and I turned to my left and before I could make out what it was, I see a deer coming towards me and it hits me and I’m on the ground.”
It wasn’t until security footage from the hotel emerged that people could believe what he was saying. McCook told the Revelstoke Review that his own mum didn’t believe him, since it was April Fools’ Day.
“I was like mum, I got hit by a deer in front of my hotel room and then she kind of laughed and said, ‘I’ve heard better than that,’” McCook recalled.
Until he saw the video, he wasn’t even sure it was a deer. But the footage doesn’t lie. Unfortunately, the deer could not be reached for comment by press time and anti-human sentiment could not be ruled out.
