Video: On Game of Thrones, death is one of the few things (aside from winter) that the people of Westeros and beyond know that they can rely on. The impermanence of life is one of the fundamental ideas that’s shaped both George R.R. Martin’s books and HBO’s series, but, as is often the case, it can be difficult to recall just how many people have died over the course of the story so far. Until now, that is.
A new compilation video put together by Game of Thrones fan Leon Andrew Razon catalogues every single on- and off-screen death we’ve seen or been told about over the course of the show’s first six seasons. By Razon’s count, there have been 150,966 so far (including animals and bugs) — which seems shocking until you take into account all of the wars and dragon-involved rampages that the show’s gotten into.
The video has a runtime of about 21 minutes, but the time just flies by if you close your eyes and listen to the soothing sounds of swords slicing through flesh, if you’re into that sort of thing. Game of Thrones returns for its seventh season July 17.
