The Ladies Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe Have Asked For Their Own Avengers Movie

At a recent media event, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige got a tap on his shoulder. Behind him was Tessa Thompson and several other actresses who’ve appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and they had a request: their own Avengers movie.

“Recently, I marched up with a couple of other women that work in Marvel and we went to Kevin, ‘What about a movie with some female super heroes? Like all of them?’” Thompson, who plays Valkyrie, said at the press conference for Thor: Ragnarok.

“It was a pretty amazing moment to be somewhere and have your shoulder get taped and turn around every female hero we have is standing there going, ‘How about it?’” Feige replied. “And I said, ‘Yes.’”

Now, this obviously doesn’t mean this is something that’s actually happening — Feige has also said he’s wanted a Black Widow movie for years, and look where Marvel is on that — but it’s a great thought. Mark Ruffalo, who plays, the Hulk even offered up a suggested title. “The Fevengers!” he jokingly interjected. To which Thompson, disgustedly dismissed him: “The Fevengers?”

Once the laughs died down, Thompson continued. “But there’s a precedent for it in the comics, right?,” she asked. “With teams like Lady Liberators?”

“Deep cut!” said Feige. “Lady Liberators, deep cut!”

The Lady Liberators first appeared in 1970 and were an all-female superhero team quietly put together by the Enchantress that was included Wasp, Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, and others. All characters, of course, which are already in the MCU.

The conversation stopped there but now that it’s out there, I can’t think of a more exciting MCU film once the fourth Avengers movie premieres in May 2019. And by that point, Captain Marvel will be able to join their ranks, too.
