Video: Things are still being kept pretty hush-hush about the plot for John Krasinski and Emily Blunt’s upcoming horror film A Quiet Place, but thanks to the first teaser trailer, we also know what else is hush-hush about it: Everything.

In this first look, we see Krasinski and Blunt chilling with their two kids in a cabin in the woods. Things look to be quiet and peaceful, and it turns out it isn’t an accident. The family is purposefully staying silent, communicating in sign language and carefully performing daily activities because of an unseen threat. The only hint we have is what could be a giant claw mark along the staircase. Things are going OK until one of the kids starts a small fire, putting the entire family at risk.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t particularly interested in this film at first. Directed and produced by Krasinski, who also re-wrote the script from an earlier draft, it seemed like it was going to be another generic horror flick. Plus, I always chuckle whenever I see Krasinski’s characters with beards, because you know that’s when he’s trying to be serious. But this first teaser has me intrigued. While the structure has some similarities to 2016’s Don’t Breathe, the seemingly supernatural element combined with the impressive cinematography promises something unique all its own. Unless, of course, it pulls an M. Night Shyamalan and goes all The Village on us. A Quiet Place comes out 10 May 2018.
