When it comes to epic filmmaking, Peter Jackson is a great person to have on your team. He’s done The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and King Kong; next up is Mortal Engines, a huge, post-apocalyptic story that he’s producing and co-writing. And the first trailer is here.
Based on the book series by Philip Reeve, Mortal Engines is directed by Christian Rivers. Jackson’s Lord of the Rings partners, Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, are also producing and co-writing. The story takes place in a world where major cities now travel the globe and prey upon smaller factions. In that scenario, two unlikely heroes are forced together to change the course of history.
Mortal Engines isn’t out until December 2018 so this is just a tease, but that’s a pretty breathtaking tease. We can only imagine things get much, much bigger from there.
