Disney has a long tradition of holiday movies, but its next one is going to be just a little different. It’s called Nicole, and Anna Kendrick is in talks to play a woman who takes on the role of Santa Claus.
The film was written and will be directed by Marc Lawrence, best known for a string of Hugh Grant movies like Music & Lyrics and Two Weeks Notice.
Beyond that, we don’t know much about it. You have to guess, though, that Disney is looking to duplicate the success they experienced in the 1990 with The Santa Clause franchise. That film, also about a person who unexpectedly becomes Santa Claus, made almost $US200 million ($269 million) from a budget of about $US20 million ($26 million) and spawned several sequels.
Kendrick is currently filming the third Pitch Perfect, which will be out at Christmas. Unless Nicole gets finished incredibly fast, it won’t make it for the same time frame.
