Video: There’s no doubt Dwayne Johnson is physically capable of performing almost any stunt Hollywood asks of him, but when it comes to bashing in the chest of another performer on a motorcycle with a giant log, that’s when his digital stunt double steps in to safely take a swing.
Australia-based visual effects shop Iloura, now known as Method Studios, shared a behind-the-scenes look at the effects it created for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. This included the rhinoceros stampede scene, where a herd of the horned beasts chases a helicopter through a canyon – an obvious, although very realistic-looking, digital fabrication.
What was probably less obvious to most audience members was that Iloura also created a digital duplicate of Johnson himself for scenes where stunts were either too dangerous or too expensive for even a stunt person to pull off. If you thought the Rock was in a lot of movies now, there’s really no reason he couldn’t make an appearance in every film from here on out now that he’s been digitised.
