4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is here. With the first discs launching within a couple of weeks in mid-May, Panasonic has just announced the first 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player that you’ll be able to watch those super-high-bitrate discs on: the DMP-UB900. It’s not out until, September, though.

The DMP-UB900 supports all the necessary next-gen tech that is required by 4K Blu-ray — BT.2020 wide colour gamut support, 60p frame rates, 4K high-precision chroma processing, and high-resolution audio codecs including DSD, ALAC, FLAC and WAV.
THX 4K Source certification means the Panasonic player has been tested and rubber-stamped by the 4K cinematic peak body, and it also enjoys Ultra HD Premium approval — which Panasonic says translates to “cinema-level” picture quality.
Panasonic plans for the DMP-UB900 to support 4K video on demand services — like Netflix’s top-tier Ultra HD streaming — in the future, too, to widen the amount of 4K content available to buyers. The DMP-UB900 will be released in Australia in September, with an RRP yet to be confirmed.
