If you can even find one of these ultra-limited-edition bottles of single malt scotch from Suntory Holding, consider yourself lucky. Not many people even have the opportunity to glimpse one and even fewer are able to pony up the nearly $US13,000 to buy one.
The Yamazaki 50-year-old is one of the rarest whiskeys on the planet. This entire batch consists of just 150, 700mL bottles, each retailing for $US12,892. The whiskey itself is a deep amber colour, nearly bronze, and supposedly has a strong fruity flavour. Just as with previous releases, they’re sold on a first come, first served basis — which would also explain why the releases in 2005 and 2007 both sold out in less than 48 hours. The worldwide economic downturn may slow that pace slightly, but don’t go expecting a case to pop up at your local Dan Murphy’s.
