Google To Axe 10% More Of Motorola’s Staff

Ever since Google acquired Motorola Mobility, it’s been making cuts, and it’s still having to lay people off. The Wall Street Journal reports that Google is getting rid of a further 10 per cent of Motorola’s staff.

According to an email seen by a WSJ reporter, the company believes that “costs are too high, we’re operating in markets where we’re not competitive, and we’re losing money.” Talk about telling it like it is. It continues: “While we’re very optimistic about the new products in our pipeline, we still face challenges.”

The net result is that 1200 people will leave Motorola, across the US, China and India. A spokesperson from Motorola explains:

“These cuts are a continuation of the reductions we announced last summer. It’s obviously very hard for the employees concerned, and we are committed to helping them through this difficult transition.”

Seems Google really is pushing the company to its limits. But how far will it have to go before it has something profitable on its hands? [WSJ via The Verge]
