When you think of the big bang, that cosmic explosion that jump-started the ever-expanding universe as we know it, it’s only natural to imagine it as a single point. One corner of space that just blew up into the galactic being. But where was it?
Well, it turns out it’s not quite that simple. Surprised? As MinutePhysics explains, the centre of the universe, where the big bang happened and the all existence as we know it began appears to be…you! Or me! It all depends on your frame of reference, thanks to the fact that the cosmic event was less a big “bang” and more of a “stretch.”
But interstellar physics aside, just take comfort knowing that if you said the universe was expanding around you as the centre, you’d be technically correct. The best kind of correct.
