No, Foxtel Will Not Accept Bitcoin (But You Can Pay With A Money Order)

So US pay TV provider Dish TV has started accepting payments in Bitcoin. This got us wondering: would that trend mean Foxtel might also be willing to consider payments in Bitcoin or another popular crypto-currency?

We asked Foxtel, and we were told there were “no plans around Bitcoin or other alternatives”. No Dogecoin, much sad. But checking out the payment options that are accepted, we discovered that you can still pay your Foxtel bill using a money order.

For the benefit of anyone born after 1980, money orders are pieces of paper you could buy from the post office in order to send a payment to someone else. A generation of grandparents loved them as a means of sending cash to distant grandchildren. These days, I think they send iTunes gift cards instead.

I seriously can’t imagine why anyone would want to send Foxtel a money order, given that once you’re in the post office, you could pay the bill directly. But hey, since when did the pay TV business model have to be entirely rational?
