Disney’s adding a brand-new mission to Star Tours based on Star Wars: Episode VIII. If this means BB8 becomes our new co-pilot, buy me a ticket right away because I must go there immediately.
Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chaiman Bob Chapek revealed the news during a presentation at D23: Destination D. According to Chapek, Walt Disney Imagineering and Lucasfilm teams are currently working on adding a mission to Star Tours — the Adventure Continues based on elements from Episode VIII, which is currently in production.
Right now, The Adventure Continues mostly takes place during the events of the first six films. During “Season of the Force” in 2015, Disney added a scene that was “inspired by” The Force Awakens, but it wasn’t a full-on mission like what’s seemingly being promised here.
It’s all part of Disney’s plans to create an entire 5.6-hectare Star Wars park at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando. According to Disney, it’s the largest single-themed land expansion in the park’s history. The updated Star Tours will be at Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios, no word when it will officially open.
