Even better: Not only is Amy Schumer in talks to star in the live-action Barbie movie, but if the deal goes through, she’ll also have a hand in retooling the script, along with her sister and Inside Amy Schumer co-writer Kim Caramele.

According to Variety, the current story (by Hilary Winston, whose credits include Community, My Name is Earl and the upcoming LEGO Ninjago Movie) is reminiscent of fish-out-of-water movies like Big and Enchanted, in that “the main character gets kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough and lands in a real-world adventure”. Sounds almost vaguely subversive for a movie based on a plastic doll. It isn’t clear if Schumer — who’ll (presumably) have to tone down her signature raunchy humour for this (presumably) kid-friendly story — would be playing the Barbie or just a Barbie in this tale. No director has been named yet; the movie is due in winter 2018.
