Godzilla vs. Kong

Adam Wingard spoke to Coming Soon about the dark tone of his remake of Godzilla vs. King Kong.

It’s a cool tradition to jump into, but it’s also one of those things where at a certain point you have to take it very seriously. Even though these are big, wild monster movies the origin of that is really from World War II and Hiroshima. If you watch that first film it’s really a sad movie. It’s a really depressing exploration of that, so you always have to remember at the end of the day the reason you’re here is because a major catastrophe took place. There’s this underlying darkness under it all, but at the end of the day it is for kids as well. Its evolved into this whole other thing that means so many things to different people.

In a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly, Wingard states the battle between Kong and Godzilla will have a “definitive” winner, so pick your side now:

I do want there to be a winner. The original film was very fun, but you feel a little let down that the movie doesn’t take a definitive stance. People are still debating now who won in that original movie, you know. So, I do want people to walk away from this film feeling like, OK, there is a winner.

Han Solo

Ron Howard’s latest set teaser is of a poor, smouldering, “headless” R2 Unit. RIP, R2-BB-Q.

Deadpool 2

A few new images of Cable have hit the web, with the time-hopping mercenary missing his cybernetic arm and eye — hard to tell if they’re going to be added in post or if this is a glimpse of Cable at some point in his timeline before he gets those features.

Avengers 4

Photos from the Tokyo set have also been posted to Twitter, revealing… a Tokyo street, pretty much.

Aquaman

Willem Defoe spoke to Screen Crush about filming “dry for wet”.

Most of my scenes are underwater. Some are not. So much of it, because we’re talking, and shooting underwater is a lot of ways impractical because you’re limited to what you can do with sets. It’s more about shooting them dry for wet, and then the effects do certain things to give the water feel. But we aren’t doing the scenes underwater, but we are in harnesses and on wires. There is movement. It’s not like were all sitting around pretending were underwater like this [stands up still], we’re swimming around, we’re moving. So that should be really beautiful.

Glass

A new synopsis indicates Bruce Willis’ Unbreakable character Dunn is on the hunt for James McAvoy.

Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.

Game of Thrones Prequels

Speaking to IGN, Kick-Ass screenwriter Jane Goldman teased that the prequel series she was involved in writing involves both a major yet “familiar” event from the books and show’s past that fans will recognise — and explores some of the more fantastical elements of Game of Thrones:

Goldman: Yeah, I think I can say if I was able to say what mine was — yeah, I think as a book reader or as someone who watched the series, you would say, “Oh, that! OK.” Yeah, it would be recognisable as a past event, but I think that’s probably as far as I can go.

IGN: Can you say if there’s any sort of magic or supernatural creatures on your particular show?

Goldman: Yeah, I mean those are things that exist in the universe that George has created and it’s certainly — that’s an aspect that I love so, umm, yeah. (laughs) I’m sure there’s an element of that in anything that’s being developed but, yeah, that’s — I guess so, yeah. I feel like I’m saying way too much! I can say absolutely nothing.

Doom of Valyria, maybe? Start speculating now!

Gotham

TV Guide reports the addition of two new cast members: Marina Benedict has been cast as the villainous Cherry, the owner of an arena-esque fight club in the seedy Gotham City district known as The Narrows, while Benjamin Stockham will play Alex Winthrop, a boy who befriends Bruce in his search for a mysterious artefact.

The 100

TV Line reports that Jordan Bolger has joined the cast as a new character named “Zeke Shaw”.

Brimming with brains, wit and bravado, Zeke has a passion for uncovering the secrets of the universe, which led him to join a space mission to a distant solar system. But fate is sending him back to Earth in Season 5, where he’ll find the charred remains of his old world, tribal warfare, shifting alliances and a brutal fight for humanity’s survival.

Marvel’s Spider-Man

Cameron Boyce (Cruella de Vil’s son, Carlos in The Descendants) will voice Herman “The Shocker” Schultz in the animated series, according to TV Line.

The Exorcist

Speaking with THR, Jeremy Slater revealed season two will take inspiration from the colossally underrated Exorcist III.

There’s a moment from The Exorcist III that every horror fan knows and loves. We’re looking into how we can get that moment in our show this year. It involves a hospital. It’s the single best jump scare in horror movie history aside from Ben Gardner’s head coming out of the boat in Jaws. Also, I love the idea of a demonic serial killer. We’re not exactly doing the Gemini Killer (Brad Dourif) this year with the new demon. But, I think you are going to see that this demon has a pattern and a methodology. It’s a boogeyman throughout history that has claimed a lot of notches on its belt. It’s nowhere closer to being finished.

Jessica Jones

Speaking with Bustle, Krysten Ritter stated season two is set in Jessica’s “heart” instead of her “head”.

The first season was in her head and the second season is in her heart… The writers have dug even deeper and made it feel just as big and just as impactful, just as personal.

Arrow

Episode five of season six is revealingly titled, “Deathstroke Returns” — presumably the major two-part story executive producer Marc Guggenheim teased recently as delving deep into Slade Wilson’s origins.

American Horror Story: Cult

The titles for episode five through seven of the new season are as follows:

Episode 7.05 – Holes

Episode 7.06 – Mid-Western Assassin

Episode 7.07 – Valerie Solanas Died for Your Sins: Scumbag

Game of Thrones

Season eight will begin filming in October, according to Nikolaj Coster-Waldau.

I knew what was going to happen for the first three seasons. After that, it’s been a season at a time. You get the scripts a month before we start shooting, or six weeks, and then you know what’s going to happen that season. But, I don’t know what’s going to happen next season. We go back in October, so maybe in the next few weeks, we’ll get the scripts and I’ll find out. I’m very curious.
