Elon Musk Releases An Explosive Mega-Collection Of His Greatest Rocket Failures

Elon Musk has been sitting on a trove of spectacular fail videos from the SpaceX archives, and on August 31st he promised to release a blooper reel with “some epic explosion footage.” This morning, he made good on that promise. Now you can watch many millions of dollars go kaboom in just over two minutes.

For Musk, this collection of failures is more like a victory lap. Last week, SpaceX successfully landed another Falcon 9 first stage booster after launching a US Air Force space plane from Cape Canaveral. The ten-year journey of blowing up one rocket after another seems to have come to an end. There’s still work to do though. “Long road to reusability of Falcon 9 primary boost stage,” tweeted this morning. “When upper stage & fairing also reusable, costs will drop by a factor >100.” As Gizmodo has noted in the past, achieving fully re-usable rockets won’t be easy.

Set to the theme-music from Monty Python, SpaceX is poking a little fun at itself here and acknowledging that we watched all of those livestreams hoping to see history be made, but also hoping to see a big ol’ explosion. Relive the good times with every “rapid unscheduled disassembly” in the video below, and tune in next time to see SpaceX winning again.
