Star Wars: The Last Jedi
The Alamo Drafthouse‘s official tie-in pint glass indicates Luke Skywalker will be picking up his original, blue lightsaber at some point in the film. He’s even on the “Dark Side” version of the glass too, if you want to start believing that, of all things, a tie-in pint glass is going to drop major movie spoilers.
Meanwhile, Adam Driver referred to Rey as “a princess in hiding” while describing the similarities between her and Kylo in the movie in an interview with GQ.
I remember the initial conversations about having things “skinned”, peeling away layers to evolve into other people, and the person Kylo’s pretending to be on the outside is not who he is. He’s a vulnerable kid who doesn’t know where to put his energy, but when he puts his mask on, suddenly, he’s playing a role. JJ had that idea initially and I think Rian took it to the next level.
You have, also, the hidden identity of this princess who’s hiding who she really is so she can survive and Kylo Ren and her hiding behind these artifices.
Turn of phrase or major movie detail? We’ll leave that for you to decide, but considering Disney operatives haven’t bundled Adam Driver into the back of a car and taken him somewhere secret until December 14, it’s probably the former.
James Bond 25
Speaking with the Italian news outlet Talky Movie, Christoph Waltz confirmed he is not returning as Blofeld – although his answer is twisty-turn-y enough that there could be the implication someone else could be playing the character. Or by “new name” Waltz simply means a new villain for Bond to fight.
No, absolutely no. I’m really sad, but that’s the tradition, that there is a new… name. Sorry. I would have liked to.
Fantastic Voyage
In an interview with Variety, Guillermo del Toro stated he’s taking a year off from directing, throwing his Fantastic Voyage remake in doubt.
I’m taking a sabbatical for a year as a director. I was going to do Fantastic Voyage, but after The Shape of Water I need to take pause.
The Crow
Speaking with Screen Geek, James O’Barr confirmed Corin Hardy’s The Crow reboot goes into pre-production this February.
As of right now, it’s slated to start pre-production in February with a very talented British director named Corin Hardy. I’m involved in every aspect of the film and working closely with the director.

A new featurette explains how Jumanji “evolved” into a video game – “it’s a game that will always find a way to be played”.

The Expanse
Deadline reports Nadine Nicole has been cast in a major, recurring role. Though her character’s name has yet to be revealed, the outlet describes her as a “lowly electrochemical tech on a ship that is fierce, intelligent, and driven, but driven by a hidden agenda and a dark secret”.
The Last Man on Earth
TV Line reports Fred Armisen is slated join the cast in a recurring role this season. He’ll play Karl, who is given the wonderfully vague character description of “a survivor with an interesting past”.
Deathstroke
During a panel at MCM Comic Con in London on Saturday, Manu Bennet revealed he has spoken to Marc Guggenheim about a potential Slade spinoff series.
Marc Guggenheim and I talked about a Deathstroke TV series and it would be awesome. If we could make it R-rated, if we could maybe leap onto another network platform that we could be at that level, make it Logan-esque and all that sort of stuff, Marc and I could write that series. But it’s not our property to say. I know the fanbase out there would be keen for it.
Bennet also spoke about DC’s reluctance to lend such a popular character to Arrow.
Marc Guggenheim has been fairly honest with me in the way that he’s been constrained, you might say, in terms of how to include Deathstroke in the Arrow series. Warner Brothers’ adult company, the film branch, have made it not possible to use certain characters on the TV show. [It’s] kind of a shame but who am I to say? At the end of the day, that’s their property and they have got to treat it in the way that they think is best in order to make the impact.
Doctor Who
Jamie Childs, who directed Jodie Whittaker’s reveal as the Thirteenth Doctor, is the first confirmed director for series 11. [Doctor Who News]
Twin Peaks
Speaking with Indie Wire, Marc Frost stated he “hasn’t decided yet” on going forward with a fourth season.
I haven’t decided yet. I think it’s still an open question and it’s one that we’re looking at and one that I think Showtime is musing as well. It’s something you have to think long and hard about. We’ll make the decision when the time is right. There certainly is no sense of urgency about it.
