There’s An Aussie Speedrun Marathon At PAX Australia

While Awesome Games Done Quick draws the attention of hundreds of thousands of viewers, other smaller speedrunning events are held all over the world. One such event is the Australian Speedrun Marathon, which takes place this weekend at PAX Australia.

Tucked behind the tabletop area at PAX Australia, dozens of speedrunners will blitz their way through 34 games this upcoming weekend in a showcase of the Australian speedrunning community’s skills — while raising money for Child’s Play.

The schedule includes classic speedrunning titles like Quake and Super Mario Bros alongside games you may not have seen speedrun in the past, like The Simpsons Hit & Run.

There are even quirkier categories like a two-player, one-controller speedrun of NieR: Automata.

Due to PAX Australia’s venue restrictions at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, ASM has to take a break overnight — but as an Australian event, the schedule has been put together with Australians in mind, so no staying up until 4AM to catch a run of your favourite game.

(Yes, I have done that. No, I don’t regret it.)

Anyone who can’t make it to PAX can watch the stream live on Twitch.tv.
