Welcome back to Toy Aisle, our weekly roundup of the best toys you might have missed, but deserve to know about. This week we should all take our red pills for the return of the One, featuring an amazing likeness of Keanu Reeves; a 25cm version of Arya Stark that we’re almost certain is based on Maisie Williams; and a Zelda Master Sword umbrella for when it’s too wet to go alone. Let’s dig in.
Hot Toys Sixth-Scale The Matrix Neo Figure
Whoa! By this point you know the drill when it comes to ever-so-slightly misses its mark, but other times the character sculpt can be flawless. As for the toymaker’s take on Keanu Reeves? We give Hot Toy’s Neo figure four red pills out of five. [Sideshow Collectibles]
Nerf Rival Prometheus MXVIII-20K Blaster
Nerf continues to go all-in with its Rival line, accelerating the foam ammunition arms race with the Prometheus MXVIII-20K blaster that looks like it belongs in a James Cameron movie. Using a trigger on a joystick-like handle, the MXVIII-20K can fire eight tiny foam balls every second, at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour. You’ll chew through a lot of rounds and power at that rate, so the MXVIII-20K features a rechargeable battery and a 200-round hopper you can drain in less than half a minute. The Prometheus won’t be available until the fall, but that gives you lots of time to save up $US200 for it. [Nerf]
The Legend of Zelda Song of Storms Master Sword Umbrella
You can’t do much in the Legend of Zelda video games until you can get your hands on a sword. And would you dare step outside on a stormy day without some kind of canopy to shield you from the elements? Of course not. That’s why you’re going to ditch your cheap convenience store brolly for this beautiful three-foot long replica of Link’s Master Sword. Landing on Merchoid in April but available for pre-order now for $US35, the umbrella includes a matching scabbard, but you’ll have to make Link’s trademark “hiya!” sound effects yourself as you wield it. ThreeZero Sixth-Scale Game of Thrones Arya Stark Figure
Despite costing more than a gaming console, there are apparently enough people buying 30cm figures for multiple toymakers to get in on the action. In addition to Hot Toys’ lineup, ThreeZero continues to add to its sixth-scale series with a new Arya Stark figure that we’re mostly sure is based on Maisie Williams? Kind of sure… maybe sure? Priced at $US178 ($219), the 25cm figure includes Arya’s needle sword, a wonderfully detailed outfit, and an actual mop of hair you can style. Other accessories include a series of interchangeable hands, but unfortunately, no Hound by her side. [ThreeZero – Facebook via Toyark]
Star Trek Enterprise Cutting Board Set
Without the benefit of replicators, us 21st century schmucks have no recourse but to prepare our meals by hand. But if a cheese and cracker platter is on the menu, the Enterprise can still be of some assistance. The Star Trek Shop has this adorable USS Enterprise bamboo cutting board for $US35, complete with removable nacelles that turn into a cheese knife and serving fork. The actual cutting surface is, unfortunately, a little on the small side – you won’t be carving any Thanksgiving turkeys on it – but it’s still a must-have addition to your next Ten Forward soiree.
