Here’s some very promising news for fans of Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement’s cult-beloved vampire mockumentary What We Do in the Shadows: FX has ordered a pilot for a half-hour comedy series based on the film.

This American venture is apparently a different project than the TV series slated to run later this year in New Zealand, where the film was made. That show, titled Wellington Paranormal, is a kind of X-Files-ish spinoff that follows the two detectives featured in the film as they investigate supernatural goings-on.
By contrast, the FX show is described by The Hollywood Reporter as more of a “reboot” of the film, which presumably means vampire shenanigans will be the main focus. Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) will direct the Clement-penned pilot, and there’s a new cast coming aboard, per THR:
Set to star in the new What We Do in the Shadows are Kayvan Novak (Danger Mouse, Thunderbirds Are Go), Matt Berry (Toast of London), Natasia Demetriou (Year Friends) and Harvey Guillen (The Thundermans, The Internship). It’s unclear if Clement and Waititi will also have an on-screen role.
FX, home of American Horror Story and Legion, seems like a good fit for a bloodthirsty dark comedy about vampire roommates who don’t always get along with the human world… or each other. Here’s hoping those pesky werewolves also pop up, and here’s really hoping this show makes it to series.
