This Black Panther-Inspired Fashion Show Is Gorgeous, But It’s Also For A Good Cause

Marvel’s Black Panther is currently taking the world by storm – the comics, the film, the soundtrack, and now… New York Fashion Week.

As if I wasn’t already pumped enough, Disney invited me to check out the “Welcome to Wakanda” exhibition this week in Manhattan. I saw a fantastic collection of fashions – gowns, jewellery, shoes and more – inspired by the Ryan Coogler film.

Designers featured include Chromat, Cushnie et Ochs, Ikiré Jones, LaQuan Smith, Sophie Theallet, TOME, Fear of God, Brother Vellies, Douriean Fletcher, and Josh Bennett. Take a look through our gallery to check out some of these designs and learn more about their inspirations:

While Brother Vellies, Douriean Fletcher and Josh Bennett will be selling their individual collections in their shops in conjunction with Marvel, the main bespoke designer pieces featured at the “Welcome to Wakanda” show are set to be auctioned off for charity. Proceeds will go to Save the Children, which works to safeguard children around the world. The items will be auctioned off through Charity Buzz.

To see how some of these designs look on real people, head over to this post from our pals at The Root.
